Voter's Ed

A Voting Education App

As a side project, I volunteered as a UX/UI Designer to help build a comprehensive platform that could help Los Angeles voters make better informed decisions in local and national elections.

Project Skills: Prototyping | Wireframing | Branding | Accessibility Design

Our Mission: To provide a platform that equips voters with the necessary consolidated information to help them navigate the voting decision, breaking through the cluttered information landscape of who and what to vote for. To help voter’s find candidate and propositions that align with their beliefs, with the ultimate goal of sparking deeper civic engagement within our communities and our nation as a whole.

Our Approach: Create a platform that allows users to browse through all the voting options — from the presidential election, to the state senate, to local district attorneys and everything in between. Assist users in curating a personalized ballot, and researching candidates and propositions. Provide details on polling dates, locations, and registration.

Our Target Demographic: Voters within the 18-40 (Gen Z & Millennial) population, encompassing both users who have voted in the past and have an understanding of the voting system, as well as first time Gen Z voters.

These users are passionate about social issues and have posted about them on a social media account within the past 3 months, but have not made the time to research specific platforms and measures (particularly at state and local levels) or may not know the impact of a particular ballot measure or a candidate’s role in affecting those issues.

Key Features:

  • Register to vote and check registration

  • Find your district

  • Browse information on candidates (including their platforms, donors, and who endorsed them)

  • Browse propositions

  • Push notifications for key voting deadlines

  • Social engagements to share your personalized ballot

Research: Members of the team conducted user interviews, surveys, and in-depth research to ensure we created an application that met our user’s needs. Below is a snapshot of our research:

Did you vote in the last primary?

Where do you get information on polling dates, locations, and registration information?

Where do you mainly get information on candidates' platforms?
